I believe in angels, the ones without wings!

The last few days have been nothing but a bundle of bad-car-days. Two car break downs in five days is utterly irksome; and don’t forget this is the inglorious Chennai summer when heat waves invade you from every direction, top, bottom and all sides.

Amidst all the gloom, and the sweat, I experienced something I read in fairy tales. Absolute strangers volunteering to help me push my two ton beast to the road side. They could have just been yet another, uncouth character, mutely taking pleasure at the sight of an allegedly prosperous guy pushing his SUV. But they chose to help!

On the first instance it was a group of chauffeurs from a car shop and then it was an unpretentious call taxi driver who went out his way to help us. Who were these strangers? Why did they have to help? I bet they had places to go, deadlines to be met. Should I forget it thanking my good fortune or should I try reciprocate to the universe.

Moments like these make me think of those wonderful lines from Abba “I believe in angels, something good in everything I see….” While they must have written it in a different context, why couldn’t have these strangers been version 2.0 of those beautiful angels; things we only read about in the Bible. These dark Chennai men could have been angels in disguise!

Why should all angels just be a gorgeous seraphim? Why should they carry magic wands? They could well be a mobile phone carrying, healthy, coloured, pan chewing dude!

Well, it’s hard I agree; it’s only in hindsight I remembered, years back I once helped a lorry guy in the middle of the night do something similar. Yes it was risky but I just did it – don’t know why. This universe is connected – who says you don’t get what you give… You just get it back twice 😉
